The Tome of Rubicon
The name of this book has shown up on nearly every reference to Eye of the North, and is obviously connected with the Great Dwarf and the Great Destroyer. It is said to contain the true names of each, and both races of dwarves have been fighting to find it. The tome is a major object in the quest Unspeakable, Unknowable, and yet it hasn't been brought up in the topics of Eye of the North yet to date. Here is the dialog of that quest:
----------
Dialogue
"The Stone Summit are dangerously close to uncovering the Tome of the Rubicon. Inside is the true name of the Great Destroyer, the bane of the living and nemesis of the Great Dwarf himself. If the seals that bind that book are dispelled and the true name spoken... well, let's just say there is no worse thing that could happen in this world. I could use yer help gaining entry to Sorrow's Furnace and stopping the Summit from getting their hands on the Tome. Will you help me?"
----------
Intermediate dialogue 1
"To ensure the name was unspeakable to all but the Great Dwarf, the name was sealed within the Rubicon. There are few left with the knowledge and power to open this Tome. The day will come when the Great Dwarf and the Great Destroyer will do battle. But the time is not yet right for such a meeting. If the true name of either is spoken aloud, it would mean the end of the world as we know it. We must not allow that which is unknown to again become known. Not now. The Great Destroyer is reputed to be everything the Great Dwarf is not...evil, malicious, and greedy to the core. If that Hierophant reads the Great Destroyer's true name, he will summon upon this world the most malignant creature ever seen by mortal eyes. We must hurry. That Hierophant will not take long to dispel the enchantments protecting the Tome."
----------
Intermediate dialogue 2
"We must bury the Great Destroyer's true name. The best way to do that is to consecrate the old temple and bring it down atop the Tome. Some of you should stay behind, just in case. Balthazate crystals are highly explosive. If you find enough of them, I can destroy the Temple. They're mined by an unruly lot known as the Dredge Blastrock. Kill them and collect the Balthazate they drop. This ritual will likely attract us some unwanted attention, so at least one of you should stay here with me. I won't be safe here all on my own, and if they kill me, they will get the Tome. When you find a crystal, bring it back immediately and drop it here."
----------
If the speaking of the names brings about the end of the world, this could easily mean the start of GW:EN. Someone could have found the tome, unlocked it, and released the Great Destroyer upon the world. I also imagine the Great Dwarf will play a large part in this new chapter, as the quest said they will do battle one day. Perhaps that day has come. I know it was buried at the end, but whats the point of burying something in the middle of a DWARVEN stronghold? Last I heard, they were rather good at digging things up... Not to mention since they have been trying to open it for a very long time...

Uhh, thanks Captain Obvious?
Seems like dwarven superstition though, that speaking a name will doom us all.
Besides, I don't think GW:EN even starts in Dwarven territory. It's somewhere up north, which is why Asura and company are running for their lives.

Actually it sounds like the Great Destroyer has been slowly gaining power for awhile and is somewere beneath Tyria.
Quote:
Now a new darkness threatens Tyria. Great earthquakes wrack the lands, opening huge underground complexes beneath the earth. Boiling up from that darkness, an ancient enemy may spell the end of the Age of Man...

If the Asura have been building up resistance and flocking to the surface they must of known about the Great Destroyer. Like Onarik said its probably just a superstition. Or....

People speculated if this was the Destroyer or not seeing as it was labeled Destroyer. What if speaking the name summons this creature/some kind of army of the Great Destroyers?

Sorry if it's an obvious question but... What is it?

If speaking something can summon something... and speaking something again and again can summon more...
Then it is obvious, spammers are evil!
